The Great TV Debate

It's time to find out where your loyalties lie: Today or GMA? Personally I've always been a Today gal myself, but with the departure of Meredith Vieira things changed. I tried to support Ann Curry because I really wanted to like her (and I do); however, the show lacked something. The dynamic change was hovering over the show like the little black rain cloud above Eeyore. And disaster struck! Television producers began freaking out because Today's ratings began to drop and Good Morning America, it's arch nemesis, stole the lead after 17 years. Apocalypse now, baby!

I began to think What's so terrible about GMA? Answer: nothing! I started to take an interest when Robin Robert's story made all the headlines. Slowly I integrated the news show into my daily routine and quite liked it. The anchors were peppy and the weather guy wasn't Al. (In my opinion a bonus!) It was a wake up before I had my morning coffee. I didn't completely give up Today, which seemed tired and super serious in comparison (especially with the introduction of Savannah Guthrie as co-host); instead, I played dueling channels. And ladies and gentlemen, I have reached a verdict.

*drum roll*

They are the exact same show on different networks! Now this isn't a shock to anyone who's watched both shows religiously, but it baffled me how close together they timed the same stories. For instance, this morning both shows covered Gorge Zimmerman's first television interview, an attempted abduction caught on tape in Philadelphia, a suspected bomber in Bulgaria, Syrian rebels, TomKat's divorce, and Primetime Emmy nominations. Each segment was broadcasted within minutes of the other between the networks. What's even more frustrating is that they go to commercial at the same time! Surely both networks could be happy if they spaced everything out so that the shows coincided with each other.

I still remain true to Today (I always get a kick out of Kathie Lee and Hoda), but I'm giving GMA a chance. But with the start of school coming up, I'll probably stop watching both in favor of sleep.

Until next time!
